M.Sc Candidate
Michal is a MSc candidate in the Industrial Design program at the Technion’s Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and brings extensive experience in digital fabrication, particularly 3D printing. Her research focuses on developing artificial habitats that replicate the ecological functions of dead trees, aiming to support biodiversity in urban environments. Working with natural materials such as clay and wood-based compounds, Michal explores modular systems that incorporate key morphological and ecological features found in dead trees. The wood-based elements are designed to decompose before the ceramic ones, creating a dynamic, evolving habitat that supports ecological succession, mimicking the natural transformation of dead trees over time.
Under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Shany Barath and Dr. Daniel Metcalfe, Michal’s research combines design, ecology, and fabrication, contributing innovative strategies that contribute to sustainable, multispecies urban living.
